WW2 RAF 33 PATTERN FLYING GAUNTLETS. A lovely, possibly unused pair of 1933 pattern flying gauntlets. Used during the early years of WW2 and through the Battle of Britain.
A good pair of 1933 pattern flying gauntlets. They appear to be unused, in excellent condition. The leather is still very soft and supple, retaining good colour, with no damage at all. The zips are both marked by Lightning, with small leather pulls. On the leather zip pulls, there are some ink stamps, which I believe are the size. They are slightly hard to read but I think they are a size 8.5. Both zips have some green verdigris deposits, but both work nicely; some gentle lubrication would help.
Inside the gauntlets, they are both stamped with A.M. crown stamps, both visible. Both gauntlets are also dated 1940. The gloves are also stamped with A.I.D. stamps, which are basically inspection stamps. Further into the gauntlets, just visible is the sheepskin lining, still visible on the back of the hand section, and it looks to be in good condition, without losses.
Overall, a lovely pair of these Battle of Britain period flying gauntlets, ideal for any RAF museum, display, or collection. As used and worn during the Battle of Britain.
