WW2 RAF 36 PATTERN FLYING BOOTS - Sz9 - Dated /39 - Battle of Britain period. An honest set of these iconic Battle of Britain period flying boots.
This pair are somewhat worn, with scuffing and wear to the exterior leather; there are no holes, rips or tears through the leather, though. The boots retain both their leather straps and buckles. Both boots have their original soles still intact and in place. Sadly, inside we do find some moulting of the sheepskin fur lining, most noticeably in the left boot. We must say, when displayed on a shelf, this is not immediately noticeable. Or if you were to fit these to a mannequin, you'd be hard-pressed to see the damage to the sheepskin. Regardless, the fur loss is there and has been reflected in the price.
However both boots are nicely A.M. marked on the pullers, marked as Size 9, and with the date of /39 in both boots just visible. The other pull tabs are also marked with A.I.D inspection stamps. They are also nicely named "J.H. EDWARDS" with service number 754200 written in pen. Sadly, we have not managed to find anything out about Edwards, but there is possible scope for some further research for any new owner.
Overall, a good displayable pair of these Battle of Britain period flying boots, ideal for any RAF museum, collection, display, or reenactor use!
