WW2 RAF MKIIIA FLYING GOGGLES - DATED /39 - BATTLE OF BRITAIN. Nice pair of these iconic early war/Battle of Britain period goggles.
A good used set of these iconic MKIIIA goggles. They are fitted with new lenses, which are made from thin perspex. I suspect the original lenses were fogged up or crazed. Regardless, the new lenses do look good and enhance them for display purposes. The frames of the goggles are in good condition, with some wear to the paint, but again, no damage. In the middle of the goggles, the hinge looks to have been repaired at some point, but is operating fine as is. There is one hinge stop missing, as is often the case with this type of goggle. However, it is not detrimental to the use or display of the goggles.
Both air vent horns, again so often missing from these goggles, are present. On the reverse of the goggles, the velvet material facepad is again in good condition, lightly soiled but undamaged. The strap to the goggles consists of two sprung sections with material covering and a middle leather section. Both sprung sections are in good condition with no damage to the material covering. The leather section is again in good condition, nicely stamped with A.M. crown mark, "GOGGLES MKIIIA", stores reference 22C/62 and dated /39.
Overall, a good, clean set of these harder-to-find goggles! Ideal for any RAF collection, museum, display, or reenactor use.
