WWII USN Logbook grouping - LT. R.C. BUNTEN - CARRIER PILOT. Nice little grouping to Lieutenant Richard Collins Bunten, who was a US Navy carrier pilot, flying right at the end of the war. Mostly flying FM1 and FM2 Wildcat aircraft. Several combat air patrols are recorded in his logbook. He flew after the war, mostly in a training capacity.
The group has 2 logbooks, one recording his wartime flights and just post-war, and a second logbook with his continued flying career into the 50s. Some interesting entries, with several combat air patrols recorded, flying over "Halsey's tankers", and one particular crash landing into the carrier deck net! Another interesting page we found was his list of flying equipment, logging all items he signed out and used. Very interesting! Accompanying the group is all of Buntens original pilot's wings, medal ribbons and accompanying rank insignia. Most of which is maker-marked on the reverse.
Overall, a great grouping to a career Navy pilot. Worthy of further research and a proper display. Ideal for any USN collection, museum, or display.
